Poppy has a track record of tackling sensitive and complex stories, as both a documentary director / producer and writer. Born in the UK and raised on a homestead in rural Scotland, built by her parents, she has lived in London, Singapore, Berlin and Vancouver, Canada and made films in over 20 countries, many with international distribution.
A Goldsmiths graduate, her background is in music and arts documentaries and series for television, ranging from BBC series, How to Be A Composer, to Secrets of a Pop Song, with Sting and Mark Ronson, to the inner mind of Rolling Stone Keith Richards in Keith Richards: Lost Weekend, [BBC] and the history of modern classical music with John Adams and Philip Glass in The Sound + the Fury: a century of Modern Music [BBC]. Poppy has also series produced and directed multi-part classical music reality TV series Project Symphony for Singapore’s Media Corp.
Most recently she has written, produced and directed documentary Me, Myself, I for the BBC, a film which explores the life of legendary songwriter Joan Armatrading, featuring interviews and performances from Joan, Martha Wainwright, Shingai Shoniwa, Soweto Kinch, Meshell Ndegeocello, Glyn Johns and Pino Palladino. The documentary has been nominated for ‘Best Doc’ at the Broadcast Awards 2020
Poppy is a supporter of NAACP legal aid and BLM causes, she is committed to creating more inclusive environments in the documentary industry.
